1. Q. Did Charles M. Schulz, the creator of Snoopy & the Peanuts Gang, live in Santa Rosa?
A. Yes, Charles M. Schulz lived in Sonoma County for over 40 years. He was born in Minnesota in November 26, 1922 and came to Sonoma County in 1958. He first lived in Sebastopol and moved to Santa Rosa in the mid 1960's. Charles M. Schulz died on February 12, 2000 and is buried at the family plot in Sebastopol.
 

2. Q. Did Luther Burbank live in Santa Rosa?
A. Yes, Luther Burbank lived in Santa Rosa for 53 years. He settled in Santa Rosa in 1855.
 

3. Q. Does the train still run through town?
A. No, the last freight train to run through Santa Rosa was in December of 1998 and passenger service ended in 1958.
 

4. Q. Where is Santa Rosa and how do I get there?
A. Santa Rosa is located 56 miles north of San Francisco and 23 miles east of the Pacific Ocean in the County of Sonoma. Visit the "Getting Here" page for driving directions.
 

5. Q. What is the weather like?
A. Santa Rosa has a mild climate. Average summer afternoon temperatures are in the low 80's with no humidity and evening temperatures may dip into the 50's. There are four distinct seasons, with rain occurring mainly in the months from October to March.
 

6. Q. I want to see redwood trees. Where can I go?
A. There are no redwood groves in Santa Rosa, but you can visit Armstrong Woods State Park in the town of Guerneville. This beautiful redwood forest is less than a half hour west of Santa Rosa on River Road.
 

7. Q. I want to do some wine tasting and see the vineyards. What wineries are nearby?
A. Paradise Ridge, Mantanzas Creek, Martinelli, & DeLoach Winery are a few of the larger wineries in Santa Rosa. There are approximately 150 wineries surrounding Santa Rosa as well. You can travel north on Hwy. 101 and visit the many wineries and vineyards in Healdsburg and Geyserville. You can also travel east on Hwy. 12 toward the town of Sonoma and take a winery tram tour at Benzinger Winery or visit the many others nearby. Lastly, travel west on River Road toward the town of Guerneville and visit the famous Korbel Champagne Cellars.
