Find Sea Lions South of San Francisco

Año Nuevo State Reserve  is home to the largest mainland breeding colony of northern elephant seals in the world. These creatures’ barking, basking, belly-hopping and other antics are definitely the main attraction, though it’s also a favorite stomping ground for harbor seals and sea lions, as well as home to many land mammals and reptiles.

The tide pools are likewise teeming with life. December through March is birthing and breeding season for the elephant seals, and visitor access to the Wildlife Protection Area within the reserve may be closed or restricted to guided walks only. Make your reservation early! Nearby you'll also find Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park , Butano State Park and other attractions.

For the first time in 30 years, the artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun return to the de young museum. Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs present over 130 important objects inducing 50 from the tomb of king Tut. The exhibition places Tutankhamun in a larger context though an additional 80 objects from the tombs of his ancestors, which provide insight into the daily life and royal burial practices of the 18th dynasty, Egypt’s Golden Age.
