Astonishing Hearst Castle on the Central Coast

Hearst Castle , built over 28 years by architect Julia Morgan for newspaper king William Randolph Hearst, is an incredible example of architecture - and opulence. Saying that the swimming pools are ornate, the gardens are lavish, and the art is priceless is an understatement.

To see some of the 165 rooms, book one of four different tours (in spring, a special evening tour is added). Don't miss the indoor Roman Pool, decorated with gold tile and eight statues of Roman gods, goddesses and heroes. Should you be on a tour at sunset, check out the great sunset view from the terrace near the Neptune Pool.

Visitors can also take a self-guided tour of the famous estate’s gardens, the Neptune Pool and enjoy the Castle walkways and grounds at their own self-directed pace. Tour times start after the regular guided tours have ended for the day, and last until sunset. Professional guide staff are available to answer visitors' questions and interpret the sculptures, gardens, and landscape.
