Visit Old Mission Santa Barbara

Revel in the beauty of the Queen of California's 21 Missions.

Old Mission Santa Barbara , the tenth of the iconic California missions founded over 200 years ago, has long been known as the Queen of the Missions. This beautiful church is still home to an active parish, and is steeped in California’s incredible history of the Spanish Franciscans and their relationship with California’s Native Americans. Take a self-guided tour through the mission, or listen to a docent describe the mission's art and architecture in detail. You can also wander over 10 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, and take in more history at the mission's cemetery and mausoleum.

» An American Century: 20th-Century Master Drawings
January 16, 2010 11:00 AM to June 6, 2010 5:00 PM
SBMA owns a superb group of American drawings from the 20th century, including works by Edward Hopper, Charles Sheeler, and many other major modernists and realists, as well as more purely California artists and more contemporary works. An American Century selects over 70 of the best to present a survey of American draftsmanship from the century when American art came of age and international recognition. From the most experimental to the most acutely life-like, these works on paper celebrate the diversity of techniques and styles possible when artists explore the medium of drawing.
