The Aviara trail system in San Diego County is one of the most diverse trail systems in Carlsbad, offering a variety of nature experiences to trail users. Choices range from Golf View Trail, with beautiful views of the Aviara golf course and a water feature with seasonal flowers and water fowl; Black Sage Trail, which gets its name from the native sage plant found in much of the coastal sage scrub that is along the trail and growing in the canyons adjacent to it; Salt Marsh Trail, with vegetation consisting of shrubs and flowers that are indicative of salt marsh areas of the watershed that lead out to the lagoon; Eucalyptus Trail, which offers breathtaking views of the Batiquitos Lagoon and ocean beyond; and Lagoon Trail, which provides a wonderful nature experience (egrets, raptors, herons, and many other water fowl and migrating birds call this home in the winter months).
