Taste fantastic foods, hang with locals, and tap your toes to live music.
Davis Farmers Market has long been considered one of the finest farmers' markets in the state, and for over 30 years residents have thronged to Davis's Central Park between 4th and 5th Streets to enjoy the festive atmosphere and fill their shopping bags with fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers, baked goods, and handmade crafts.
The Saturday market (8 a.m. to 1 p.m. year-round) tends to draw the biggest crowds, but the Wednesday market (4:30 to 8:30 p.m. in summer) has special pluses. For one, it’s less crowded than the boisterous weekend market. The Wednesday market also features Picnic in the Park, a relaxed affair where you spread out a blanket and enjoy a feast. Buy your dinner from a variety of food vendors (look for Indian, Thai, Mexican, plus artisan cheeses, breads, grilled meats, and more), then select a locally brewed beer or other beverage. Then relax with your meal and listen to live music: jazz, bluegrass, country, Western swing, rock, Dixie, even a cappella doo-wop.
Davis is a family town, so there’s entertainment for the kids too. If they’re not dancing, they can watch magicians and jugglers, or burn off some energy in bounce houses and scrambling up a climbing wall.
