See Government--and Maybe Even a Governor--At Work California's State Capitol

A tour of this lovely 19th-century structure and its exhibits is a must. There are an incredible array of offerings here at the California State Capitol Museum . Read accounts from survivors of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. And who was the remarkable March Fong Eu? Find out in an exhibit honoring California’s women. 

Enjoy the relative cool of spring and take a stroll through the adjacent 40-acre Capitol Park, enjoying the shade of trees from around the world. Don’t miss the great murals in the basement.

As a part of a special “Lincoln’s California legacy” focus happening at various museums in downtown Sacramento, the California state capitol museum is proud to present “our union forever: California’s role in the civil war.” On display in the museum’s attorney general exhibit room, the exhibit explores California’s political, financial and military support of Abraham Lincoln and the preservation of the union. It also honors the extraordinary efforts of thousands of California citizens who supported and sacrificed for the union in a variety of ways.
